Thank you so much for coming to our wedding. We chose this book for you as a special reminder of our big day, and we hope you'll read it and enjoy it!

Alison says:

I read this book ages ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a kind of travelogue of the UK and Miranda Sawyer comes across as a cross between Louis Theroux and Bill Bryson, with slightly more humour and slightly less cynicism. My favourite chapter is about Whitby and the annual Goth weekend, simply because I know a few people who have been.

Hope you enjoy it!

This got lots of recommendations from others on the 'Random' table, so I'm looking forward to it. I actually read the first few pages in a quiet moment and I'm awfully glad I don't come from Wilmslow as it's not terribly flattering so far!

It was a wonderful wedding, and I hope you both continue to be as happy as you looked last night :-)

This has been sitting lonesome on the shelf since the wedding but I'm currently finding myself with plenty of reading time (the lull before the storm?!!) so I'm flashing through the TBR pile I left behind last time I was here. It's a good job this one was an easy read though as I seem to have the concentration span of a gnat.

On the front cover the author is likened to Victoria Wood and I think that's probably the best description I've seen, though I can see the Bill Bryson connection.

A bit like Alison, I enjoyed the Goth weekend chapter. Sadly though, it reminded me of my own mis-spent Friday nights at a similar venue! Best forgotton really ....

I'm putting this aside for a BC friend abroad. I can't remember where in England she's from, but next time she's feeling homesick perhaps it'll remind her why she left!

Mondays are Bookcrossing days - because my suprise packages are always on Mondays to cheer me up!!!! Hurrah!

Thanks KK -- as I LOVE Victoria Wood I am itching to read this!

FYI: Get someone to massage around your ankles... the boney bits that stick out... that should do the trick! Or find a reflexologist!

Loved the label... do you think I could find a husband so that I could do a special label and release books... that would be fun... though with my luck someone would throw the books as an alternative to rice or confetti!!! Sigh.

OF COURSE I don't come from Wimslow.... I'm a London/Surrey girl... or rather I was... what is "homesick"??? !

It's quite awhile since I read a book that made me laugh out loud... and snigger too! An interesting insight into our lives... particularly from the point of view of being a "long term" expat.... I'd forgotten about such things as B & Q.... and the decorating ideas of the Brits....
A book that requires an indepth understanding of what makes the Brits what they are, love them or hate them, they really are a little different!
Planning to give to a Brit that I don't actually know, the wife of a colleague in the hope that it may inspire her to become a Bookcrosser too!
