It's one of those books we all had to read in high school, but I have to admit I had no memory whatsoever what it was about after oh, let's call it 3 decades ... It was my son's summer reading, and so I picked it up and read it myself, again. I was totally engaged in reading the book - at times wanting to "wake up" the central character to the world around him, and at other times wanting to enter into dialog with Camus. While I certainly know the existentialist and even absurdist perspective of the book, thoughts of the protagonist as autistic kept surfacing in my mind - he was emotionally detatched from life and so distracted by his environment. [Sorry - it was a result of me reading the book in 2006, with all our diagnoses of life's behaviors.]
I hope that others for whom this book was read long ago, find it provocative.
