Venice, 1468. Wendelin von Speyer has just arrived from Germany with the foundations of a cultural revolution: Gutenberg's movable type. Together with the young editor Bruno Uguccione and the seductive scribe Felice Feliciano, he starts the city's first printing press. While Bruno and Felice become entwined in an obsessive love triangle with a beautiful Dalmatian woman named Sosia, Wendelin tempts the fates by publishing the first edition of the erotic Roman poems of Catullus -- a move that will enrage the church, scandalize the city, and change all of their lives forever.
The Floating Book is a ravishing novel of letters and lust, intrigue and betrayal -- a chillingly beautiful debut that few readers will soon forget.

This was one of those books that I saw at the bookstore and just couldn't leave there (of course, it helped that it was on sale). It's been sitting on my bookshelf for quite some time, but I do remember enjoying it.

This book is going to CdnBlueRose as a result of the What the Heck ALS Swap #3. Happy reading, Rosie!

WOW! It's even the hardcover, morsie!!! I, too, first saw this book on the shelf at Barnes & Noble and was absolutely drawn to it - though it was the trade paperback I saw!! I wanted the book BADLY, but finances simply would NOT allow the purchase, so home and to the wishlist I went - and much to my surprise! the book appeared within a week on an Almost Live Swap!!! To my even greater surprise I managed to take the book out of the game and I am absolutely thrilled this morning to open my Cupid package and finally have the book in hand!! Thanks so much, morsie!!!! Now.... to find the time to read it.......... *need to sneak away somewhere.... oh, and with this lovely supply of Mr. Big bars..... laughing*
