Comfort buying books again!!!!!!

Journal Entry 2 by wingjax987654321wing from Wembley, Greater London United Kingdom on Saturday, February 4, 2006
I picked up Sophie Kinsella's first shopaholic book some years ago and was hooked! Hence the reason for this book purchase. I had been looking at it in the shops for ages, but as I have such a high mount tbr pile, I wasn't buying any books at that time, so declined, had a bad day a couple of weeks ago and brought it as a "comfort" purchase!

Boy am I glad I did. This book hits several nerves for me, as I am currently on gardening leave (for those who don't understand the term it means my post was made redundant and I am being paid for my statutory notice period, but not working it) from a very stressful job, which I enjoyed, but at a relatively high cost.

Samantha Sweeting is a lawyer at the top London agency and works all hours possible, never has a break, takes her "burberry" on holiday with her, is stressed out all the time, she sees no other way of living. She makes a mistake and walks out of work, gets on a train and blags her way into a housekeeping job. For most people, this would be interesting, but do-able, however, Samantha's cooking level is at the "toast" level (literally that!!!, even boiling an egg is out of her league), she does not even know how to use a washing machine, operate a hoover, iron, dust, that you don't put eggs in the microwave and so on. Basically, it is a disaster waiting to happen.

However, as she miraculously manages to prevent being sacked, she realises that there is more to life than constant working and stress and begins to enjoy her new life so much that she isn't sure she wants to go back to her old life.

This is Sophie Kinsella at her best.

Picked up today from the post office! It looks great and I am glad that one of my wishes was granted:) Thank you for mailing this to me!
Will post more comments after reading.

18 February 06: it was time for a change and I am glad that Kinsella admited this! Even if Samantha has her own unbelievable traits, she is my favorite:)
You might want to check this link, from Kinsella's official webpage:

What I liked the most was Samantha's indecision at the end of the book (even though we all knew what was going to happen:)).
I have pmed the next reader on the list.

Thanks again jax987654321 for raying this!

22 February 06: mailed today!

Finished this book on Saturday. The book was enjoyable, however this wasn't one of my favorites by Sophie Kinsella. Her past books I just couldn't put down.

I will update this entry as soon as I write my review of the book.

I am waiting to hear back from the next person on the list to get this sent out.
