Thanks so much Oldbroad for sending this to me! I read the other three in the series years ago and have held onto them waiting to find this book. So now, once I've read the rest in the series again, to remind me, I'll then read this one. (But even after all these years, the cahracter names are still familiar, so I haven't forgotten everything!). Thank you again!
I loved this book! Thanks so much for sending it to me OldBroad. It deals with big themes of gambling and native American land rights, is full of spiritual truths and a heartbreaking love story.
It's number 4 in the seemingly ever expanding saga that began with Love Medicine or Tracks depending on whether you go in order of when they were written or in chronological order. This is where I have my problem with this series. It isn't clear in advance which books directly relate to each other and there are so many characters it is easy to get confused, plus there is sometimes a distinct lack of narrative drive - fine in one novel, but a series needs something to sustain it.....
I feel that Shawnee Ray's story is to continue, but it doesn't look as though it will be in The Last Report on the Miracles at Little No Horse, which is a later book in the series that I bought very recently and will start reading tomorrow. At least that latter book offers us a family tree - incomplete though it is, it's better than nothing!
So all in all a very enjoyable book, but it leaves me puzzling a little!

At Meet Up. Enjoy!
Well, sadly no-one wanted this book at the last Edinburgh Meet UP! They just don't know what they're missing there, that's all I can say. So, I've made it into a boxed set with Tracks and Love Medicine - the two other of Erdrich's books that really make the one story with this book. I'll then put it into the OBCZ at Always Sunday cafe in Edinburgh.
Caught as part of a set of three, thank you.
