Almost embarrassed how long I have had this book in my possession but at long last, having found myself with loads of spare time due to being furloughed during the Covid19 pandemic I have now finally read it !!
I did like Iris's way of telling the family story as an old woman ( though she would have preferred the term elderly not old) and there were really so many wonderful passages. Atwood really has a way with words that draws me in time and time again.
The "side" story of the Blind Assassin at times seemed to distract me from the main story as it's a bit weird but of course it makes sense for the novel in the end.
It won the Booker Prize at its time, you can see why and 20 years on it's still a marvellous read
