Old Penguin Paperback

from the cover:
When a group of well-meaning neurotics and perverts come together in a lay religious community to try to forge a new and better life, the situation calls out all the humour and insight for which Iris Murdoch is famous.
The theme of her novel is the dark conflict between sex and religion symbolized by the new and the old bells of the abbey convent across the lake.

Not only did the book made it overseas, but it did it very quickly ! I am impressed, I received at the same time a book that was mailed economique in the beginning of November ! Thanks Carla for sharing it through BookRelay and for fulfilling a wish of mine and for the nice postcard, I love Paul Cezanne ! It's going to my TBR shelf for now.

Iris Murdoch can still surprise me ! Although the subject is a tad old, the plot is so modern it is frightening. The same situation could happen in today's world in various sects. As usual, Iris Murdoch creates a wonderfully real world and with her pen, a panel of interesting characters. Without being complacent with them, she makes them work to fully understood what lies beneath that shiny British surface allowing us to see what they truly think and where they come from in terms of background without seeming to do so. Her pen is still whimsical and yet ironic !

Thanks Bestfriends for sharing it ! This was the perfect copy to do so, a beautiful oldish paperback.
