Book 1 of the Belgariad

The young boy Garion starts on a quest with Polgara and Belgareth, two sorcerors from old times, to free the land from the God Torak's demands of blood-offerings.
The series tells the story of his quest and the people who join him, their adventures and what they learn about themselves.

I read this years ago so am looking forward to rereading. Also, then I was using the libraries copies so had long stretches between books. WHen vuurhoutjie said she was releasing the whole series I jumped in very fast asking for them. Thanks!

Oh dear, my TBR pile has just got bigger. Again! I will keep the series and release the five books together as a set

The first in a five book series. It is a quick read, enjoyable fantasy using many of the familiar tropes - the orphan, the ordinary boy who is more than he seems, magical teachers and guides, an epic quest and perilous journey.

In some ways this book encapsulates the concept of the heroes journey.

I enjoyed it and was glad of the opportunity to re-read it.

I have now passed on the series to my nephews.
