Journal Entry 1 by Morgaine77 from Münchenstein, Baselland Switzerland on Friday, January 6, 2006
What does an "Anita Blake - Vampire Hunter" - Fan do after reading the last book in the series? And it's still a long time until the new one comes out? Sure, I could re-read all of them, but that's no fun yet. So - let's investigate what else Mrs. Hamilton has written...

That's how I discovered the novels about fairy princess Meredith NicEssus, also know as Merry Gentry. Let's see, what do we have here: mystical creatures, crime, intruiges, fairy politics, lots of juicy sex and all the men are studs... Yes, I think I'll like that! ;-) Hell, that's why I read fantasy, no need to be realistic! LOL

This is the third book in the series.

From amazon.com:
"The third novel in Laurell K. Hamilton's Meredith Gentry series, Seduced by Moonlight continues the story of Merry Gentry, a mortal Faerie princess hiding in L.A. Her aunt, the immortal and insane Queen of Air and Darkness, has ordered her to compete with her cousin, Prince Cel, in making a baby. Whoever produces a child first wins the throne of the Unseelie Court. But Merry still hasn't conceived--and that's not her only problem. Unknown assassins seek her life; her magical powers are becoming potent and uncontrollable; and her sadistic aunt has just commanded her to return to Faerie.
Readers tired of mild modern fairy-tales about nice, polite elves may want to explore the Meredith Gentry series, which remembers that Faerie was originally a dark, dangerous realm of sex and violence. Hamilton's Queen of Air and Darkness is a vicious killer and torturer, and many of her fay drink blood or practice kinky sex (or both). Under royal orders to bed many males, Merry is far from averse; she and several lovers hit the bedroom on page 8 of Seduced by Moonlight and don't emerge until page 175. There's no shortage of sex, but not as much as the page count may indicate; the characters like to talk and sulk even more than they like to fornicate. The large cast and complicated backstory make this book the wrong starting point; newcomers should begin with the first novel, A Kiss of Shadows."

The first three books of the Merry Gentry series will be made into an international bookring with a rather special shipping arrangement. Please check every single book separately for the shipping order.

Some guidelines:
1. Please journal the book when it arrives (so we know it's safe and sound with you), once you read it (to let us know how you liked it) and when you ship it off (so we know it's on its way to the next reader).

2. Please PM the next person in line before shipping the books off, not only for the adress, but also to ask if they are still interested in the ring!

3. Surface shipping is perfectly acceptable.

4. Try not to take longer than four weeks per book.

5. And the most important thing: Have fun!

Here are the participants so far in shipping order:
1. MaryZee (US)
2. moonglow18 (US)
3. midwinter (US)
4. Luintaurien (US)
5. NeedSun (CA)
6. jessicaloveyou (SG) <-- asked to be skipped
...back to me, Morgaine77, who will then coordinate with previous books in series.
7. cathepsut (EG)/Intl.
8. mikime (IT)/Intl.
9.CandyDarling (FI) /intl. -> asked to be skipped
10. Rianonne (AT)/Europe

Package arrived today, finally, and fortunately this book actually survived the trip. A slight twist to it, but no lasting damage. This package definitely had a problem though, 2 rips in the outer packaging, thank goodness for bubble wrap.

I have one other bookring ahead of this one, plus the previous one in this series so it'll be a couple of weeks till I get to it. I'll update here when I start on it.

3/23 update - Starting on this later today.

Journal Entry 5 by wingmaryzeewing from Taneytown, Maryland USA on Saturday, April 1, 2006
Finished reading this earlier today. At the beginning, I didn't think I cared for this one as much as the previous one - A Caress of Twilight. But once I moved past the political manueverings at the beginning of the story, and got into the fey transformations part of the story, I really started enjoying it more. And I really enjoyed the descriptions of the magickal battles near the end of the book. LKH's descriptions of her characters, and the characteristics of the various types of creatures fascinates me. She is so descriptive and paints such beautiful visual images of the various fey creatures; it just makes it so easy to picture each unique character in her stories.

Thanks so much for sharing these, Morgaine77. This one will be going off to Moonglow18 probably on Monday, 4/3.

Arrived today. Thanks for sending it to me. I have two bookrings to read before I can get to this one but it shouldn't be too long.

I wonder sometimes if my post office hangs onto books. I didn't receive any last week then three arrived today. The same thing happened to me on September 13...very weird.

Journal Entry 12 by NeedSun from Perth Road, Ontario Canada on Saturday, October 28, 2006
This series goes at a much slower pace than the Anita Blake series. At page 200, they hadn't come out of the bedroom yet (I exagerate slightly but you know what I mean). It is all about strategy, politics, loyalty, love and how to use sex to get what you want. The little action that does occur is always accompanied by sex.

Of course, I NEED to know what happens.... so now to find the next books in this series.

Thanks very much for sharing this book, Morgaine77. I will return it to you so it can start the next leg of it's journey.

RELEASE NOTES:

Gosh, I'm silly. I just discovered that I packed up this book instead of Merry #2, A caress of Twilight, and that now Merry #3 is already travelling to Egypt while #2 is still lying here on my desk... Gah! Sorry Cathy! Will ship Merry #2 to you when I next go to the post office!

Journal Entry 15 by cathepsut from Metzingen, Baden-Württemberg Germany on Saturday, March 3, 2007
Received today, thanks! I will try not to take over 4 weeks, but I might be pushing it. I am half way through one ring and received 2 Anita Blake with this one. Guess I'll have to flip a coin!

UPDATE: Oh, waiting for #2 then, I guess! :)

Journal Entry 16 by cathepsut from Metzingen, Baden-Württemberg Germany on Tuesday, June 12, 2007
Finally! After waiting for a while to get the books in the correct order, then getting a ton of rings at the same time and reading some Anita Blake first, here we are! Better late than never! Thanks for letting me take my time. Here we go:

From Amazon:
"In Seduced by Moonlight, Laurell K. Hamilton brings the dark, erotic reign of the immortal fey to a startling new depth. Full of sensuality and the consuming anticipation of latent powers unleashed, this world of gods, shapeshifters, and immortal souls is unveiled in all of its supreme magnificence and treacherous deceits."

I liked it. I think. I must have, because numbers 5 and 6 are now on my wishlist. It's not because of the great writing - as in the late Anita Blake novels, the amount of plotline is diametrically opposed to the amount of sex. Almost no plot. Phewy! A word to the curious - start with book 1 of the series, A Kiss of Shadows. I don't think this would make any sense otherwise, it needs to be read in order.

On its way to Italy, enjoy!

Journal Entry 18 by mikime from Roma, Lazio Italy on Monday, July 2, 2007
I received this a few days. Thanks! I'm looking forward to reading it, considering that I think I liked the second one of this series better than the first one... :)

Journal Entry 19 by mikime from Roma, Lazio Italy on Saturday, July 7, 2007
Finished!! I liked this very much. I actually enjoy the "court politics" and the long talks to define strategies etc. :) I didn't feel like the sex was overwhelming compared to the plot, but maybe it's me getting used to it (too many LKH novels, recently.... ;) ). I'm also fascinated both by the different kinds of feys and creatures and by the (new and old) magics working throughout the story. Especially, I must say I loved the final part of this one, and the actual ending, the last scene. I think the author is doing a much better job at writing endings for books of this series than for the Anita Blake's ones. Oh, and this one's got a "glossary" with pronunciation of gaelic-fey names....cool! ;)
Thanks so much for letting me read this!!! I'm sending it on soon. And no need to say it...Looking forward to the next one (as soon as I can get my hands on it...)!
