The Shining
by Stephen King

From the back cover
What of the penetrating cold terror of an old hotel, a haunted place of seductive evil with a malevolent will of its own - and a five-year-old boy of innocent beauty whose mind mirrors the nightmarish secrets of its past?

Behind every door of the Overlook's 110 empty rooms there is a chamber of horror. Little Danny knows of these things because he has the terrible power.

This book is on the 1001 books to read before you die list.

I was surprised by this book. I expected this book to be extremely scary, but I found it more suspensful than frightening. The beginning was a bit slow, but by the middle - it was a true page turner. There were scary things as well, but it didn't overwhelm the story.

I have never seen the movie, but it was on tv this week and I recorded it so that I could compare.

I plan to pass this book on to another bookcrosser reading books on the 1001 list.

I wasn't sure what to expect... I'm still trying to recover from Pet Cemetary. I really liked the book. It took me a few chapters to get into it but then I couldn't put it down. I even missed my bus stop going to work. Very suspenseful... I'll never look @ a topiary the same.

Glad I got to read it and as a bonus I get to mark another book off the 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die list. Thank you for sharing, echesketch!

This will go back to ChiBoiler so she can pass it on to another BC member.
