This book was a bit hard to get into at first. There is so much dialogue & so many names and events tossed around in the first few pages that it's easy to get confused. But I kept reading and ended up enjoying the book. The mystery wasn't hard to figure out, but I enjoyed the setting and the characters.
This came home to me today. Thanks!

On a whim, I searched the listings at AbeBooks for the keyword "bookcrossing", and found several listings that included "bookcrossing label" in the descriptions. (I don't mind seeing BC books in bookstores or for sale - that's part of a book's life cycle as far as I'm concerned. And in this case the BC info was preserved, so that's good too.) I decided to order a few of those books so I could re-release them, and this well-traveled ex-library hardcover arrived today. [It only had a small label in front, so I added the handsome, surreal bookplate label by Jonathan Wolstenholme, as mentioned in this news item. Thanks to the artist for granting permission to use his work on the bookplate!]
The book's from a series about Jennifer Gray, a newly-graduated veterinarian now working in a small Nebraska town, where the quirky inhabitants and a variety of animals tend to involve Gray in one mystery after another. The books have been compared to "Nancy Drew" and they do have that rather naive, written-for-a-younger-audience feel to them - despite some adult plot points here and there.
