You know, the movie was a better story, though it's fun to play around in the court of Louis XIV with the almost mythic musketeers. I recently read Vonda MacIntyre's Sun and Moon, so a lot of the historical figures were familiar. The musketeer novels were originally written as serials, like Dickens, so there's a lot cliffhanger chapters, and because the characters were so well known by this time, some chapters that just hang out with them.
