Given to me by a friend to become a BC book. Have removed most of the marginalia I found, but some remain. Not exactly the cover shown on the shelf, but the one you can see here (Penguin Books).

I would like to call this book the future classic of the Thirtysomething Generation. Clever and witty, Hornby describes the protoype whining male, sulky and scared of letting himself into a relationship. He's cool on the other hand, an expert in music. And there is of course the strong woman, successful and determined about what she wants. Well, kind of.

Definitely fun reading, even for a male reader, although the self-pitying of Rob sometimes makes you feel lousy and embarassed for belonging to that gender group. I hear that the film has been quite a success too, so I am thinking about renting it to see how they interpreted the story.

I got the book in the men's toillet at the Helsinki Vantaa airport on August 7th, 2006. I was washing my hands when I noticed it among other two. I've spend two great vacations weeks near Kuopio and now I'm back in Bologna, Italy where I plan to read it. I'm Portuguese currently living in Italy.
