This is the heartbreaking story of a love that became a victim of circumstances.
The author tells the story in the traditionally rich language of Arab literature, and yet it is a modern book. Gibran manages to repeatedly surprise me with his progressive opinions (given that the book was published in 1912) on the role of women and his criticism of the existing social structures.
The final chapters paint pictures of scenes that are painfully beautiful and tragic beyond believe. The tale managed to touch me in a way that in the end brought me to tears.
