A Parrot in the Pepper Tree

This book is the sequel to "Driving over lemons", which I have seen many times in bookstores, but never actually bought. After all it is just one more of these books about people who moved to another country to fulfill their live's dream, built a house, had some kids, struggled with a strange culture and so on and so forth.
When I saw this sequel in a library book sale, I bought it anyway, because firstly it was very cheap, and secondly I actually like to read these kinds of books. And although it is not really different from all the rest of the genre, it is among the better ones and I quite liked it.
I am not sure yet of what to do with it. Maybe I'll release it or start a bookray or something. Later.

This arrived last week while I was away on vacation. I can't believe the way that bookrings/rays all seem to arrive at the same time. I'm half way through a book and have two rings ahead of this one. I promise to get to it as quick as I can. Thanks for sharing.
Finished this on the weekend. Although this was a good read, I didn't enjoy it as much as "Driving Over Lemons". I would, however, still recommend it.
I mailed it this afternoon (air) to ladiibbug.

10/14/06 Arrived today. Will begin on Monday. Thanks for this book ring, Samulli, this was a wish list book - RSVD
10/18/06 Very enjoyable trip-via-book to Stewart's small mountain farm in Spain. He did a great job taking us along on his freezing sheep shearing jobs and introducing us to his neighbors & his community. Thanks for sharing, Samulli!

It took me longer to read than expected but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Chris Stewart is an ethusiastic expat making a living in Spain with his wife and daughter. He tries his hand at sheep sheering, farming and flamenco but ultimately it is writing that he excells at.

This arrived today. Good timing. I just finished a book last night, so this one will be started very, very soon.
I think I enjoyed this one a bit more than Driving Over Lemons. I enjoyed hearing about the changes the first book effected on the life of the author. I enjoyed learning more about his connection (or lack thereof) with Genesis. I also enjoyed hearing more of his adventures trying to farm in Andalucia. But I was dismayed to learn of the projected dams in their area. Wonder if we'll ever get a 3rd book?
Thanks for sharing this, Samulli. Ceroc-Monster asked to be skipped, but I have Piiku's address and will be sending this on to her tomorrow.

I have read "Driving over lemons" a couple of times, and it was great to read more about Chris and his family, especially Chloë. I like this genre a lot, it always makes me dream about a cottage of my own in southern Spain - or maybe on an island in Greece. Usually the people in these books seem quite rich (have you ever read Peter Mayle worrying about money?), so this was a refreshing exception. Of course driving over ice does not surprise me (Finn) , but otherwise the chapters about Sweden were quite interesting too.
I'll mail this book to nkwriter today.

I picked this up today from nkwriter at our meetup. It was nice to see you again, it's been awhile! Looks interesting and I do enjoy this genre of writing. Hope to get to it soon.

Meet-up.
This was a fun read. I hadn't actually realized it was a sequel but it didn't matter. I actually picked this one up at a meetup quite awhile ago and don't know why it took me so long to get to it. I think Stewart is a great storyteller and writer and I would certainly be interested in finding and reading the first in this series, Driving Over Lemons, just to flesh out the picture and see how his life in Spain has changed. I should find out if there is a third yet, too!

Thank you so much, jessibud for sending me this book, hand-carried by LibraryThing's _Zoe_, all the way from Canada!
I did enjoy the first book of this series, so I'm looking forward to reading this book. What makes this book extra special is that it once traveled through the hands of the late MaryZee, my local BookCrossing friend. I still miss her presence at our BookCrossing events very much.
