this is a story how far can as man go to destory this world and then start over and what would happen if we do just that? I wish the ending had a little more to it. But I still enjoy reading this story.
This book is going as a birthday gift

AWESOME! I love Margaret Atwood, but at the same time her books scare me. Some of the scenarios are just a little to close to reality and if you think about it you can't ignore the similarities to things that are really going on in the world now, which leaves you to the "what if" that she is trying to illustrate and the "what if" is truly frightening. I loved this book.

Dearest Keli,
I am writing to you whilest being trapped under a mountain of books. Even though I feel this is a good way to go, I still wanted to write you while gasping for my last breath...if only to say...it has been nice knowing you and THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTION to my demise. From the uplifting Bell Jar to the VERY comic and humorous "Poisonwood" I am happy to die with good literature covering my body. Hope I can actually read in this position.
You are too good to me.

This book is on its way to New York via bookmooch.com. Enjoy.

Just received through bookmooch.com. I requested it because I like Atwood''s writing and I was curious about the story. Now that I''ve read it, I''m reposting it as available on bookmooch. It''s a good book, engaging and a fast read, but I can''t always re-read Atwood. Her stuff can get rather bleak, and I don''t think I''ll want to read it again, so hopefully someone else will ask for it and I''ll forward it along to them.

Dear fashionalien,
Is there any way I can get you to send it back to me? I would love to re-read it. Let me know. Feel free to take a look at my shelf to see if there is anything you would like.

Thank you!

Arrived here safely today. It's been a while since I read this, so I'm looking forward to the pleasure of revisiting a book I admire quite a lot. Thank you, goaliegirl!

Re-reading a book you think you already know quite well is always interesting because you pick up so many details you initially missed. Lots of them here are clues to Crake's eventual behavior, and there's a great quote from Jimmy's father early on: "Compounds... were for keeping you and your buddies nice and safe inside, and for keeping everybody else outside." That division plays out in the book in more ways than you first think.

Atwood is such a great writer that reading her books is almost irresistible: you can't stop yourself. This time, one of the parts that struck me is her skill in switching between the Snowman-present storyline, and his memories of the past. You have to admire her skill in bringing Jimmy/Snowman to the Paradice dome in both threads, at the same point in the book.

If you liked this, I recommend the remaining two books in the trilogy, 'Year of the Flood' and 'Maddaddam.' Also, i you enjoy audiobooks, there's a wonderful performance of 'Oryx and Crake' by Campbell Scott. Check your library for these treasurer!
