Not a bad read once you get used to the slang. I suppose if you really enjoy Trainspotting then this one for you!

Actually it was MrPloppy who picked this up at last night's meetup, not me, but as you'll probably be waiting weeks for him to get round to journalling it, I thought I would instead. I'll probably read it before him anyway :-)

Well, I was right in my prediction that I'd read this before MrPloppy, but I was about 5 years out in my estimate of how long it would take...

Irvine Welsh somehow pulls off the trick of having thoroughly unlikeable characters that you can't help sympathising with. Even at their worst, you can kind of see the logic that leads them to the behaviour that at the same time you're finding utterly reprehensible.

Plus of course it's just nice to read my mother's native language :-)
