Spirit Warriors
6 journalers for this copy...
The very first time I saw this book was way back in school. A classmate was reading it and she let me read the first chapter or so. (ahem... that was during latin class...) I was so captivated by it that I had my grandma get it at the library for me (she had the library pass for the whole family ;-)). If she knew what sort of book it was, I'm sure she wouldn't have gotten it... LOL
In the whole city, in all libraries, there was just ONE copy. The main library had to order it from another library just for me.
For some weird reason a few years back I suddenly remembered this book. The first time I read it in German, now I wanted to read it in English. I looked high and low for it and FINALLY found it at an online used bookstore. (Shipping was way more expensive than the book itself... LOL)
It was worth every single cent. (The author wrote only two books: "Spirit Warriors" and "Witch Hunt". Of course I also got the other book!)
The ancient war between good and evil is described very captivating. Various spiritual believes are woven together. We follow the stories of the key people but in the end they are all brought together to defeat the ultimate evil...
The book is battered and well loved. :-)
From the back cover:
"The final conflict begins...
On February 5, 1962 - a day marked by strange astronomical events - the first piece of an ancient Hopi prophecy falls into place: two very special children are born. One will bring Armageddon. The other can save the planet - but only with the help of her guardians.
And so they come together, the three born of the same fire. Fay, the gypsy girl, gifted with the Sight that foretold a horrifying future; Neva, child of the Zuni and Navajo, who wields the secret power of the medicine way; Eric, soldier of fortune, survivor of his own hell on earth, Vietnam.
Now is their time to choose between darkness and light... to embrace the forbidden, erotic pleasures of the abyss... or cling to the lifeforce. The Antichrist has summoned a deadly virus into the world, and no man, beast, or blade of grass can escape its carnage. Only the guardians can decide the final outcome. Their destiny is the destiny of all, in a struggle of passion, power and the ultimat evil... Spirit Warriors"

I thought the book was really good. I loved the way the new age energy came into the book and mixed with old mythology and religions :)
Once thing that bugged me, though, was that the book was sort of American vs. Middle East. The good guys are all from somewhere in America, mainly USA and the perverted bad guys are from the Middle East.
Overall the book was great, but a bit too scary in some parts :S I had to read comics before being able to go to sleep at night ;)

And the book is safe back home with me. Thanks yogie!

Morgaine passed this on to me at the convention, thanks so much.
Wow, Morgaine, you are awesome! It was a real pleasure to meet you. I hope you are having a ton of fun in San Diego. Wish I were there. It is still raining here :(

This book was great! I seldom rate a book a 10 but I thought this one deserved it.
I was fascinated by how the different pagan religions had so many similarities. I wish I had the drive to delve deeper into this topic. I also wish the cover art of the book was not so gory. This book is not in any way a horror story yet the cover art could really put people off reading it.
This book and The Mediator are in an envelope for Cherie. Hopefully, I will get them in the mail today.
Edit June 2: Sent by air today (along with a little surprise for Cherie)

Got this in the mail today. Thank you Joanne! I wuv u for remembering that I asked about that sunscreen too! It'll come to good use when Mike and I take the RV to the Cape next weekend for his birthday. (Bunnies are coming too!)
I've got a few other books to get to before this, rings and promised swap books and since I'm last on the list before it heads home, I hope you don't mind Tanja if I hang on to it for a little longer than a month.... not that much longer, I promise! :)

Piping up real quickly here... ;-)
Take all the time you need, hon! As you said, since you're last on the list it doesn't really matter. :-)
Enjoy!

This was a really great book! I caught a few grammatical errors, but seeing as this was the first published edition of the paperback, I assume they've since been fixed in more recent releases. That said (cuz I'm such a nit pick LOL), I was really surprised with how good this book was, and I enjoyed it immensely. Even though I don't see how the Native Americans can associate the color yellow with Earth. hehe (My tradition usually associates yellow with Air, which they used Blue for, and though I can see that because of the sky, you then have to make Water green instead of blue, and nice Caribbean water is blue anyway, and then once you've used green, you don't have it available for Earth and are stuck with using yellow.) Okay so maybe that's the 2nd thing I could pick on, and why I only gave it a 9 instead of a 10.
But none of that detracted from the story for me. I really enjoyed the characters. Fay really annoyed me with how gullible she was as soon as a man showed her the least little bit of attention, but I realize that's exactly how human nature is, that people see what they want to see when they're getting their needs met, or their egos stroked as in Fay's case since Ahriman made her feel loved and needed again. Neva was great, she was my favorite! :)
In any case, I've got my work cut out for me the next couple of days, and won't have time to get this back in the mail on it's way home to Morgaine until after I've returned from Starwood sometime after the 24th. Thanks for sharing it with us hon! :)
UPDATE 05-AUG-2006: I packaged this book up today and it's now ready to go out in Monday's mail (07-Aug-2006). It's being sent via Surface mail since Air was not very cost-efficient in this case. (It usually is for packages weighing 6 ounces or under, but this was 7.5 so it had to go as 8 oz.)
