Use your vacation time to help scientists in their fieldwork. I did it once and had a great time. The book is a few years old, but the main topics are still valid - and some new telephone numbers or other things are easily found on the net. But the book helps you to decide what kind of project to look for and it has many addresses of organizations etc.

This has been great. I have been dipping into it for a while. It has opened my eyes to a whole lot of volunteering opportunities. I am now following up some of its leads on the net. One day (it will be a few years yet as I still have kids to raise)I will do some of these things.
