The year is 2000. American is swept up in the tide of fundamentalism that is overwhelming the world. Suicide cults and paranoid militias are on the rise and mobs of hooded men drive young women from the streets, as the right-wing American Alliance marshals its forces to close an iron grip on the United States. Yet even as a power-hungry Alliance candidate makes his first move in a game that will land him the presidency, one woman prepares to stand against him. At Carolyn Crespin's side are five women friends, the oddly present spirit of another friend who has been reported dead, and an even more surprising ally, mysterious and powerful -- one who hands Carolyn the key to the future of humanity, for good or ill... I have gone on a Sheri Tepper kick and am re-reading all of her old stuff that had been packed away for a couple of years. To be released eventually.
Personal collection for now.

Promised to daidy, with the understanding she will return it once read.
Mailed to daidy today, because she wants to try more Tepper. She's supposed to send it back to me when she's done so I can read it again before releasing them.
Avanta7, thanks so much for lending these to me. I'm in the middle of reading GRASS for a bookring right now. I will send them back to you when I'm done, probably in about a month or two, if that's okay.
This book would get a 10 if it hadn't started off a little slowly. I ended up staying up late last night because I wanted to finish it before I went to sleep.
There is so much to process after finishing this book. It really made me think about gender roles in society and my own role and actions...and...on top of that, it's a darn good book. I think about how often we think we know people, and then there turns out to be a whole other world behind them that we didn't know about. I see so many women (myself included) who struggle in a male dominated society, and especially in male dominated religions. I think that's why I've had problems fitting in to the role some people expect of me as they do all women. I've tried to want what I'm "supposed" to want. It leaves me a lot to think about.

And it's arrived safely back at home. Glad you enjoyed the book, daidy!
Picked up at the BookCrossing convention in Fort Worth! Thanks! :)
