I received this book as a birthday present. I've been wanting to read it for a while - it looks cute!

From Amazon:
'Twas the night (okay, more like the week) before Christmas, and all through the tiny community of Pine Cove, California, people are busy buying, wrapping, packing, and generally getting into the holiday spirit.

But not everybody is feeling the joy. Little Joshua Barker is in desperate need of a holiday miracle. No, he's not on his deathbed; no, his dog hasn't run away from home. But Josh is sure that he saw Santa take a shovel to the head, and now the seven-year-old has only one prayer: Please, Santa, come back from the dead.

But hold on! There's an angel waiting in the wings. (Wings, get it?) It's none other than the Archangel Raziel come to Earth seeking a small child with a wish that needs granting. Unfortunately, our angel's not sporting the brightest halo in the bunch, and before you can say "Kris Kringle," he's botched his sacred mission and sent the residents of Pine Cove headlong into Christmas chaos, culminating in the most hilarious and horrifying holiday party the town has ever seen.

Move over, Charles Dickens -- it's Christopher Moore time.

The small town of Pine Cove, California is back for a second Christopher Moore book, this time close to the Christmas holiday. The town, quirky as ever, is preparing to celebrate Christmas when a stranger with glowing blonde hair appears, as police officer Theo Crowe runs over him. Being an angel, no harm comes to this stranger, though Theo doesn't know that's why he isn't hurt. The angel is in town to provide a Christmas miracle, though he'd really much rather use his sword and kill some people.

True to Moore's style, these characters are completely off the wall. Molly is off her meds, thinking she's a Warrior Princess again, Gabe is studying the effects of lust on rats, Theo is back to smoking pot, and the town is just generally off its rocker.

I enjoyed this book more than its predecessor, Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove. It still wasn't laugh-out-loud funny, though there was a part at the beginning at the book that had me smiling to myself on the train, however it was still an enjoyable read.

There's an additional chapter added to the end of this book and I'm not sure why it's there. It seemed unnecessary to tell the story.

This book is with me :)

Back in Pine Cove, CA again with its wealth of crazy characters, Moore writes about a Christmas wish. A child sees a store Santa whacked over the head with a shovel and wishes to have Santa brought back to life. An angel, Raziel heeds the wish and the entire cemetery full of dead are now zombies.

While Raziel is in town he is run over by the police officer Theo Crowe, who is back to smoking dope. Only Raziel doesn't die and Theo is confused as to why he wasn't hurt. Meanwhile his wife, Molly is off her meds in order to save for Theo's Christmas gift. Inserted into this list of zany characters is also Roberto, the sunshade wearing fruit bat.

This is a crazy funny book. Moore definitely writes stories from a completely different viewpoint. I especially loved the dead in the cemetery talking amongst themselves.

This book looked very interesting. I read all the journal entries and saw that HoserLauren, AceofHearts, SciFisstrs, motherof11 and Marita all liked the book and some found it hilarious! So I was really looking forward to getting into it. Alas, I found it slightly interesting in the first few pages and then extremely crazy, boring and not at all funny. Nothing made me laugh. I just could not wait to finish it and start on another book. However, I just was not strong enough to read through right to the end and I skipped the last chapter! Phew! What a relief for me! I am going to release this book very soon. Although I hated it, all those other bookcrossing journallers seemed to love it, so hopefully the next person to read this will like it. Me? I will just be happy to see it go! :))
