I bought this book as a gift from my secret santa's wish list. It looks really good, so I'm now off to put it on my own wish list whilst this copy is off on it's travels to Kansas USA. I hope my partner enjoys it.
What a wonderful surprise when I opened the mail to find this book as a secret santa gift! Thank you so much! I will be travelling to Las Vegas this week, and I'll be able to read it on the plane!
A good, and difficult, memoir to read. Kathy Dobie does a good job explaining how self-loathing, self-disgust, and self-contempt work together to make a dark and lonely personality.
Since Vespa said she'd like to read it, I'm sending it back to her!

Arrived back here safe and sound. Thank you so much for letting me read this book too, I will make sure it travels some more as soon as I have read it
The back of this book describes it as ....... a powerful, disturbing and compelling memoir told with frightening detachment and honesty.
I don't think I could put it better. I had a powerful urge to hug my teenagers and tell them how proud I was of them and how much I loved them after reading this.
Thank you PiggyDiva for letting me read this, I'm now offering it to another BC'er as a RABCK

This was on my wishlist as I'd read a good review of it - thanks to Vespa for sending to me as a RABCK.

A really excellent and difficult read, but a real pageturner. I loved her descriptions of her family life, so vivid. But difficult to read at times as it reminded me of how horrid teenagers can be too each other at times (not that I've been through anything as extreme as her) but trying to work out who you are, how to fit in, and the hypocracy of teenagers who at a whim can cause so much pain by labeling you one thing or another.
