The story begins when timid, nervous -- but dazzling -- Horatia loses a high-stakes card game to Lord Lethridge.

Haven't read the whole thing, but it has fabulous descriptions of ball gowns, ribbons, jewels, and similar delights.

Sending to a UK bookcrosser.

Thank you so much for including this book with the bookrelay book, it was a lovely surprise. I've just finished my first Georgette Heyer mystery and really enjoyed her writing and I love the Regency period too so I'm looking forward to reading it.

I loved this book, it was just what I needed to read just now. Something light, but wonderfully written. I loved the Regency detail and the plot was fabulously trashy ("he crushed her in his arms" :o) or something like that!) There were flashes that reminded me of Jane Austen's books, for example when Horatia decides not to go on a picnic to Boxhill. There were lots of little throw-away comments like this and I thoroughly enjoyed spotting them.

I will definitely be reading more Heyer. In the meantime this will be on its way to fellow Heyer fan lindyb28 tomorrow!

I love Georgette Heyer and I love this book: typically engaging romance which demands the willing suspension of disbelief and therefore provides very happy escapism.

Passing on to Suesknees for her holiday reading.
