A shocking murder shatters the picturesque calm of Pennsylvania's Armish country - and tests the heart and soul of the lawyer who steps in to defend the young woman at the centre of the storm....
I really enjoy Jodie Picoults books.

Have received it today. Many thanks - can't wait to read it!
Journal Entry 4 by mrspopoff from Nottingham, not specified not specified on Wednesday, April 5, 2006
I love Jodi Picoult and although I did like this book (I've visited the location and seen the Amish as mentioned in the book - so have a vested interest!) I didn't think it was enthralling as the others that I have read, didn't keep me to the edge of my seat!
Now chosen as book ring and the order is as follows:-
1) Knitwit - USA
2) Cougmax - USA
3) Karenlea - USA
4) Collectorkerri - USA
5) Rhythmbiscuit - USA
6) Mazienh - USA
7) Babyimran - Malaysia
8) Missterry - Germany
9) Chocdrop - UK
10) ktwalker - UK
Then back to me! Have tried to keep the same order as when people have first replied to my post, but unfortunately had to swop a few around because of posting preferences.

Posted to knitwit today - express pigeon post! (airmail!)
Arrived yesterday but since it was pouring rain all day I didn't get the mail! I'm really looking forward to this - she's such an incredible author and the story takes place in Pennsylvania. Thanks also for the keychain - I'll use it with pride.
Another great book from Jodi Picoult. I loved the setting and the main plot but the subplot was completely unnecessary to the story - which is why it doesn't get a ten. The rekindled romance was almost exactly the same as it was in My Sister's Keeper (although it was written first) - I certainly hope I don't run into this tired plot device in any of her other novels. She's such a great writer I don't know why she bothers throwing this tangential stuff in.
A side note about Lancaster County Pennsylvania: In addition to being the bucolic home of the Amish, it is the center of the puppy mill industry on the East Coast. Governor Ed Rendell is advocating stricter inspection and licensing requirements in a effort to curb abuses by unscrupulous dog breeders.
Off to Cougmax in the Pacific Northwest tomorrow.

I have to admit, I think I read this book 5 yrs ago! Though I did not catch on to that until I was a quarter way through it, so I kept going! lol!
I enjoyed the story, it was a bit drawn out. I kept waiting and waiting for it to move along. It was also pretty predicatable (that could be from my previous reading! ;) )
I liked her open descriptions of Amish life. I agree that the subplot with the lawyer was corny and overdone.
off to karenlea

Caught!!! I have a few rings/rays ahead of it, but I should be able to start it soon. Thank you for sharing!!!
This is the third Picoult book that I had read and so far, this has been my favorite. I very much enjoyed the characters, plot and writing style. I also learned things about the Amish culture, that I did not previously know.
I am going to try to make a Post office run on Friday, if not, it will be mailed on Monday morning.
Thank you for sharing!!!!

Received as part of a bookring. Will read on vacation next week.
I liked this one as much as, if not more than, My Sister's Keeper. I agree, however, that the love rediscovered subplots in both books sound suspiciously alike. That didn't detract, however, from the story. I have met a few Amish people, and appreciated this look inside their lifestyle.
Thanks for sharing, mrspopoff! Off to Rhythmbiscuit tomorrow.

Thank you. The book arrived today. I will start reading it soon.
I loved this book. I liked My Sister's Keeper, the only other Picoult book I've read, but I enjoyed this book more. For one thing, I'm satisfied with the way it ended, whereas I felt cheated with the other one.
I'll be mailing this book to MazieNH soon.

Thank you so much! I am about 1/4 of the way through another bookring, but I read fast so should be reading this one within the week. Looking forward to it very much!
I liked this book very much. For me, it was the most enjoyable of Picoult's books, although I've liked a few of her others as well.
I thought the characters were well fleshed out and there weren't really any "cardboard" people to be found. The plotline was gripping and there were a few surprises along the way.
Thank you for sharing! I will PM next in line now.

OMG I am so embarassed! I had this book ready to mail out to Babyimran in Malaysia, and it got mixed in with some other books on my desk and I forgot it. I found it today when I was moving them.
I will try and get this to the PO tomorrow, I'm very sorry to have held up this ring!
