Birthday present from my mom.
I really enjoy McCourt's writing, as if he's sitting next to you weaving a tale for you. I liked this book even more than Angela's Ashes. Solid story of a young Irish immigrant intent on getting an education and becoming a teacher, despite all the odds against him - including very little family/friend moral support as he's constantly told he should stick to physical labor jobs that pay better.
I was almost through with the book when I noticed it is autographed! I can't really remember when I got it, I just put in the JE "birthday present from my mom", but she most likely got it at a thrift store or USB.
I found a copy of Teacher Man on Book Mooch and requested it, and can't wait to read it.

This one came in the mail. Thanx a bunch. (Can't wait to read it - and my husband even got a bit enthused over this one!)
I enjoyed the style of writing. It carried me along without too much pain. I kept wondering what his eyes looked like though... I liked his "rags to riches" story. A little research shows that some of his family and friends claimed that some of what he wrote was not the way it was, though. Then, again, my sisters and I remember things very differently from each other, too. He did good for himself, even owning a professional ball team!! Tells me he learned to play the game pretty well.
On its way to ChicVolley99.
Received from ciloma. Thank you so much!
I have too many books on Mount TBR right now, so I will pass this along for someone else to enjoy.

Pulled this from the bookbox. I read Angela's Ashes, but never read this one.
