Another one that looks great...

From the inside flap:

Set in the hip urban core of Toronto and in the city's outlying areas, where the working poor encounter the middle class in their tony new homes, the novel is about a family - of sorts - and their intimately yoked lives, ones linked together by love and longing, pain and regret, and what happens to them during the course of just over two years when what has held them together begins to unravel. In exuberant, depth-charged language, Levine manages to lay bare her characters' most inaccessible feelings.

There is eighteen-year-old Tanis, self-suficient, nervy, wise; her rough-edged uncle, Walker, owner of a small boarding stable; Joy, Tanis' mother; and Walker's girlfriend, Mimi, a singer. Wlaker lives behind a veneer of toughness, belying a tender heart, and is drawn into the maelstorm of glamorous Mimi, whose charms are beginning to fade as she is overtaken by the unfinished griefs from her past. At the centre is Tanis. Caught in conflict with her mother, she is unable to recognize the bond of love that exists between her and her uncle. At the same time, she is ready to break away from the angle of this makeshift family - and does - until a tragic event occurs and everything changes.
