Bill Bryson is an unabashed Anglophile who, through a mistake of history, happened to be born and bred in Iowa. Righting that error, he spent 20 years in England before deciding to repatriate: "I had recently read that 3.7 million Americans according to a Gallup poll, believed that they had been abducted by aliens at one time or another, so it was clear that my people needed me." I just read In a Sunburned Country (has he written two Australia books or is that published as Down Under in the UK?) earlier this month and loved it. I'm looking forward to this one. Thanks!

I read this befor/while on a trip to England. The book was good, but also not one of Bryson's best (A walk in the Woods, The Mother Tongue, and A Short History of Nearly Everything were far more amusing. But just because somethign isn't as good as something else doesn't make it bad. =)
