Arrived this afternoon. I'm in the middle of a book at the moment, but as soon as I've finished it, this one's next.
But.... how long will it take me to read 900 odd pages? Still, looking forward to it

What a great book. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Some bits did work better than others - but what can you expect of a 900 page book.
I thought the WWII part particularly gripping and was sometimes tempted to skip the modern day story to get back to it. Especially a 10 page description of the tour through the jungle was tempting to skim read.
However, I didn't :-) and it paid off. The way the stories intermingle is impressive.
Went in the post this morning to titihood this morning.

Yay! Got this from the Post Office today, will start reading it soon! :) thanks
09/05/07: Wow this is quite a volume, but I really enjoyed it. At the beginning with all the math theory I nearly gave up, but am really glad I didn't. Cryptonomicon combines historical fact with fiction and modern-day issues to create a very exhilarating read and web of characters and events.
The only thing I am a little disappointed in is the ending, which seemed rushed.

I sincerely apologize. I received this last week, but was moving and the computer wasn''t hooked up. Then in the shuffle of unpacking, it got misplaced. I''ve just come across it again and will start reading it tonight. I''m looking forward to it as I''ve been told that it''s fantastic. Thanks for sharing, rascalapache and for shipping it to me, titihood.
Thanks, rascalapache, for sharing this terrific book. I really enjoyed Cryptonomicon. The concepts were interesting... I'd never before thought much about code breaking and cryptosystems. I especially liked the characters and discussing this book with my SO and his father was entertaining too as they had both read it and are huge computer nerds. I'll have to get my hands on The Baroque Cycle before too long, since it has many of the same families.
I have AliceF's address and will mail this book tomorrow after I get paid.
