Or, I Know Why the Winged Whale Sings
a novel

From the back cover:

Just why do humpback whales sing? That's the question that has marine behavioral biologist Nate Quinn and his crew poking, charting, recording, and photographing very big, wet, gray marine mammals. Until the extraordinary day when a whale lifts its tail into the air to display a cryptic message spelled out in foot-high letters: Bite me.

Trouble is, Nate's beginning to wonder if he hasn't spent just a little too much time in the sun. 'Cause no one else on his team saw a thing -- not his longtime partner, Clay Demodocus; not their saucy young research assistant; not even the spliff-puffing white-boy Rastaman Kona (né Preston Applebaum). But later, when a roll of film returns from the lab missing the crucial tail shot -- and his research facility is trashed -- Nate realizes something very fishy indeed is going on.

By turns witty, irreverent, fascinating, puzzling, and surprising, Fluke is Christopher Moore at his outrageous best.

CHRISTOPHER MOORE is the author of Fluke, Lamb, Practical Demonkeeping, Coyote Blue, Bloodsucking Fiends, Island of the Sequined Love Nun, and The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove. He lives in Hawaii, and invites readers to email him at [email protected].

Oh my!!!

I've been busy lately and not had much time to pop into BookObsessed. Even if I had I don't think I'd have remembered that I entered this contest in November 2008!!! So imagine my surprise (once my lovely but obviously slightly senile neighbour realised that they *had* accepted a package for me - 5 minutes before they were looking for it but were sure they hadn't taken one in :giggle: ) when I had this *huge* package. I was even more excited when I realised the customs notice said used books. And then I opened it......

7 books!! Yes SEVEN books!! All the way from the Canada to the UK. So as well as this one I was lucky enough to receive:

Bloodsucking Fiends - Christopher Moore
Island of the Sequined Love Nun - Christopher Moore
The Left Hand of Darkness - Ursula K Le Guin
The Ig Nobel Prizes - Marc Abrahams
The Cat Who Companion
Best Cat Stories

Wow!!! Thank you soooooooooo much Holly/nwpassage. I feel incredibly spoilt.

Another fabulous book from Christopher Moore. It all starts off quite normally, and then turns kinda crazy. Research rivalry, whales and goo, what more could you want!

I was sure I'd journalled this...I certainly read it a while ago! More thoroughly enjoyable Moore madness. He definitely comes up with some excellent ideas
