I'm a *huge* Beatles fan, and have recently discovered Douglas Coupland...so this book had to reach my shelf sometime, a cheap charity find is a bonus :)

‘Liz Dunn – overweight, crabby, and plain – has nothing in her life but impending oral surgery…Her days are peaceful, if a little dull, until one day when a young man is admitted to the local hospital with Liz’s name and number inscribed on his medical alert bracelet: In case of emergency, contact Liz Dunn.’

As the blurb says, ‘...a haunting exploration of the ways in which loneliness affects us all’ – especially in a featureless city apartment block, a dead-end job, and a dysfunctional family. Liz ‘Eleanor Rigby’ Dunn is not quite ‘everyman/woman’ but she, like the rest of the human race, deserves and needs to dream, to have meaningful relationships and just a little bit of magic.

I think this is one I will *keep* from the bookbox (where keep merely means hold onto until I've read it)...

This book completely absorbed me when I read it last week. It is beautifully plotted and the characters combine flawed humanity with enormous sympathy. I loved it!

Shall I take it to the OBCZ Tony!?!

This one arrived in the post today... to a bit of confusion...

then, on further inspection I realised that it was a VBB entry. Interesting. Thanks LindyB!
