Jeanette Winterson's books are always on the odd side, and this one is no exception. A few times it almost strays towards wacky (an unforgivable sin), but is rescued by the fact that there's some really clever stuff going on below the surface. A fun (but at the same time thoughtful) read.

Caught at my second BC meetup, at Ground Zero in Riccarton. FutureCat commented that this was the sort of writing Zadie Smith was trying to do (we laughed about the contrast in thickness between this and The Autograph Man).
Couldn't sleep, so read this between 1.30 and 3.15 this morning. Just the right length to put me to sleep, and a not-too-deep-and-meaningful book for the wee hours. Good fun, especially the bizarre bit about the creation of God.
