At first I was not sure about this episode in the Thursday NExt series, but it gre on me. Personally I find the books set in BookWorld the most interesting, but there are 2 scenes that really set the book above the others for me - firstly when Thrusday meets her father in the ChronoGuard office and time swirls around them, and second when Granny Next dies. Both really well written and moving, and contrasts well with the pace of the rest of the series
Thank you very much for sending me this book all the way from the UK! This was on my wish list, so I am extremely grateful. :)
I just couldn't get into this book, and I'm afraid this series is not for me. I'm so disappointed because I think Fforde's ideas and concepts are so original! Yet I'm just not interested in the way the series has turned out. Thanks for sharing! I'll be passing it along. :)

I love the Thursday Next series!! I can't wait to see what she is up to now!
I read this one last year when I right after The Well of Lost Plots and thought it was brilliant! That was a time in my life that was a bit crazy (life with 2 under 2!) so while I got around to reading it, I didn't get around to journaling about it! Anyhow, this was my favorite in the series so far. I especially related to Thursday as a mom!

Hooray! I have high hopes for this series since I really loved The Eyre Affair.
I ended up listening to this in audio format. I'll find a new home for this hard copy soon. Here is my review of the audio:
My favorite installment so far in the Thursday Next series. I read the first book, then listened to the next three in audio format. Sadly, for this book, they changed the narrator. By the end of the book, I'd gotten used to the new narrator, but I still prefer the first one. This narrator tries to give a different voice to each character but it often results in a character sounding particularly dopey. This was especially unfortunate when she was speaking for Landon, who returns in this book after his absence in Book 3.
Overall, these books are just a touch too self-congratulatorily clever. Still, I find them wonderfully inventive and enjoy the literary references most of the time. This book (unlike Book 3) contained very little time in the book world. I'm glad to have read the two back to back because that provided the right balance between book world antics and real (i.e., fantasy England) world plots.
I'm looking forward to continuing the series, but perhaps will go back to hard copies since they seem to continue with the new narrator.
