This novel is the story of a painting's provenance. How it was conceived and where it ended up and how it got there. More so it is the story of the lives of the people it touched and how it changed their lives for better or worse. Very moving and interesting read. I wanted to know more and more about each story but at the same time I wanted to know what came before and read anxiously to know how it all began and was it really a Vermeer?

I loved this story. I also wanted to know more and more. Each story could have probably been a book. It was very interesting how the painting touched the different owners. How is art perceived? This book is like unwrapping a present wrapped in many layers

It's my turn to read this book next!

I couldn't get through this book because I found it rather boring. That, and I didn't quite understand who exactly the owners were. I think I had read 4 full "stories" about owners of the painting, but it would have been nicer to get a better description of how they went between the owners. The only description was of the passing between the first and second story.
Anyways, there's no sense in me reading anymore of this since I'm not enjoying it.
