I forgot I still had this! Thought I given it away years ago...

Anyway, this is the story of a young girl coming to terms with her sexuality. Her family, especially her mother, is deeply religious and doesn't approve of her relationship.

Good story, but I dislike the style of writing. I actually preferred the TV series a few years ago!

Thanks Xanthe-pup for sharing this book :)

I had read it many, many years ago and could not remember it all. I enjoyed reading it again and found myself quite shocked in places. I won't say anymore for fear of spoiling the plot for future readers!

I am waiting for Hellie's address to send the book on...

I'd given up on this book ever making it to me as it seemed so long ago that I was asked for my address. Anyway it is here now and has ended up with two books ahead of it. I also have to apologise that my usually quick reading has gone down the pan with a significant increase in the amount of work and study I am doing. I will do my best not to hold the ray up too long.

Ooops! I hadn't realised that I'd not journalled this after I'd read it. After a couple of PM's I have the address to pass this book on.

I joined the ring as my husband had been telling me about the drama, based on this book, after it had been mentioned on 100 Most Erotic TV moments (or something like that). Whilst this story was not crude or even heavily based on the sexual acts I can understand how it may have been interpreted for the screen.

The story showed a real battle between nature and nurture and was an extremely sad story in my eyes. I found the portrayl of the church quite profound. Having known some Christadelphians (whom I hope I am not about to cause offense) it was very reminiscint of their strong and insular community. To battle against the expected, the godly and the norm was well depicted and gave the reader a strong empathy to all those outcast whether in a lesser or greater degree.

I really enjoyed the book, however if I ever see the TV drama I may be disappointed by the adaptation.
