Samantha is a high-powered lawyer in London. She works all hours, has no home life, and cares only about getting a partnership. She thrives on the pressure and adrenalin. Until one day.... she makes a mistake. A mistake so huge it'll wreck her career.

She goes into meltdown, walks right out of the office, gets on the first train she sees, and finds herself in the middle of nowhere. Asking for directions at a big, beautiful house, she is mistaken for the interviewee housekeeper and finds herself being offered the job. They have no idea they've hired a Cambridge-educated lawyer with an IQ of 158 - and Samantha has no idea how to work the oven.

Disaster ensues. It's chaos as Samantha battles with the washing machine ... the ironing bord ... and attempts to cook a cordon-blue dinner ... But maybe she's not as undomestic as she thought. Maybe, with some help, she can fake it? Will her employers ever discover their housekeeper is actually a top-flight lawyer? Will Samantha's old life ever catch up with her? And if it does ... will she want it back?

The story of a girl who needs to slow down. To find herself. To fall in love. And to discover what an iron is for ...

Journal Entry 3 by purplerosebud from Petersfield, Hampshire United Kingdom on Sunday, October 23, 2005
This book is now going out as a bookring. I hope you have fun with it.

This is how it works:
You will be sending the book to the person who appears after you in the list, so you need to PM them to get their address.
It's not a race, so just read it in your own time but remember that other people are waiting to read it too.
Please journal the book once you have received it (so we all know where it currently is) and again when you have read it (so we know what you thought of it!)
If you're the last person on the list the book comes back to me.

Loved it loved it loved it!!
Typical Sophie Kinsella, sooooo easy to read...a bit far fetched at times, but a wonderful, entertaining read all the same....with a few laugh out loud moments too - exactly the kind of book I've needed of late!
Her cooking inability reminded me of me a few years ago....until I overcame my fear of cooking. now I'm not bad!
Thanks so much for sharing!

Journal Entry 8 by Dinkie from Sunderland, Tyne and Wear United Kingdom on Sunday, December 11, 2005
Juat finished reading this book in the early hours of the morning. I've read all the shopaholic books and thoroughly enjoyed them and this one did not disapoint. Again this was a book that I didn't want to put down once I started reading it! The situations Sam got herself in to made me laugh and cringe along with her. However, towards the end I wished she would hurry up and make the right decision! I definately reccommend reading this book.

I have pm'd Janiemac75 for their address to send the book on. Thanks tiggerboing for giving me the opportunity to read it.

Journal Entry 12 by katie1980 from Basingstoke, Hampshire United Kingdom on Saturday, January 7, 2006
This book arrived in the post this morning. It's larger than I'd thought it would be, because it's the airport style large format paperback. I hope that I enjoy it :o)

Journal Entry 13 by katie1980 from Basingstoke, Hampshire United Kingdom on Friday, January 27, 2006
I'm halfway through this book already! It's a much quicker read than I'd thought it would be, and thought there were some bits that made me cringe a little at the beginning, I'm getting into the story now. The image of Samantha learning to cook in a little cottage in a village is a very vivid one, and it is great how that author has used words such that the scenes really come to life, and I feel I could reach out and touch them!

I'll PM DorothyRedBoots for her address, as I'll finish this really quickly and I want to get it to the post office with the other book I'm sending on! I'll journal to say what I think of the second half of the book later!

Journal Entry 14 by katie1980 from Basingstoke, Hampshire United Kingdom on Sunday, January 29, 2006
Wow! That was a really quick read, even though it was a massive book! I finished it on Friday night and posted it on yesterday.

Some bits were a touch uncomfortable reading for me at the moment, as I'm struggling with certain things at work, and would love to stay home! But I don't think I'd love to be a cleaner in someone's house - I like being an Engineer! *lol*

Thanks for sharing :o)

Journal Entry 17 by Dorothyredboots from York, North Yorkshire United Kingdom on Thursday, February 2, 2006
Just coming to the end of this. This may not be literary fiction but it is a lot of fun. I'm a bit dim and didn't realise until I looked at the back of this book, that Sophie Kinsella writes as Madeleine Wickham - duh! I think I prefer her writing as Madeleine Wickham as the characters are a bit older and I identify better. Sophie Kinsella sometimes gets a bit far fetched, although it does put me in mind of Thomas Hardy (you know the sort of thing - the vital letter that ends up hidden under the rug and never gets read and so on). Will PM to jedsmom for her addy and send it on asap. Thanks to purplerosebud for this ring.

A very easy, quick read. Just what I needed this weekend (stress city at the moment) as I didn't have to think deeply or reread passages when the text hasn't sunk in!

PM'd JaneUK and will get into the post asap

Journal Entry 20 by JaneUK from Flitwick, Bedfordshire United Kingdom on Wednesday, February 15, 2006

Journal Entry 21 by JaneUK from Flitwick, Bedfordshire United Kingdom on Wednesday, February 22, 2006
A lovely quick, easy read. Just last month I gave up my job to work from home, after realising that all the stress and aggro wasn't worth it - so I can identify! Yes the plot was quite simplistic, and who learns to cook in a weekend (wish I could), but it was good fun.

PM'd sunlightbub.
