Gosh - I just received these 1000 pages..... didn't expect the book to be THAT big... therefore extra-many thanks for having sent it to me, *oldbroad*!!!!!
Wow, I made it!!!!! I really read the book!!!!! It took quite a while for me to start reading it, but now i did it! every single word on every single page ;)
I must say sometimes the story could have been shortened but nevertheless I somehow enjoyed reading it - I think in general i like reading about other people's lives - and this guy for sure has some things to tell. I was a bit disappointed by the end since it didn't really seem to be an end, in a way.... now i am looking forward to the movie coming out at some point ;)
the book is up for grabs now ;)
thanks oldbroad, for having sent it to me in the first place ;)
-----
will be sent to *francisco963* very soon ;)

I'm finished! Wohoo!!
What a read! I started reading this book about a year ago, but I have had other (shorter ;D ) books coming in between, and I've also had a reading-pause for some months due to studies etc. That's why it's taken a while..
But my what a book! I almost feel like it had to be taken in small portions in a way, since it was so big and had so much to tell. Like you've read a number of smaller books instead of just one.
It took me a while to start reading Shantaram, I guess because of the size, but when I finally started it caught me instantly. I really liked the way it was written, even though it had me going nuts occasionally with all the difficult, describing words not usually seen by a non-native english-speaker. Parts of the book were really fast to read while other parts were a bit slower. I guess it's these slower parts that Muffin77 also mentions. Some parts could have been shortened, yes, and I think those parts are responsible for the book not getting a ten in my rating of it.
Anyhow. I liked reading the book a lot. I didn't know much about India before, but the book made me interested in the country and now I even think of maybe going there one day. I really thought the writer managed to bring the text to life, like you could almost smell the city and see everything he describes with your own eyes. Amazing!
I will hold on to the book for a little while longer. I want to give it to someone who really wants to read it, and I already have some ideas.. ;)

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
After I read this book in 2010 my mum read it too and she still talks about it. She loved it so much. I was originally reserving it for a friend, but seeing they hadn't picked it up (yet), I think it was time for Shantaram to fly out of the nest.
The book was released on a book table in the lobby of the Nordic Light Hotel, Stockholm.
Happy travelling dear book. Sorry for keeping you on hold for so long. Hopefully, you will find another perfect reader here. (You already found my mum) <3
