Very disturbing, but I love the way it was written, and although the main character is a sick, horrible person...at the end of the story you actually feel a little sorry for him (but just a little).

The introduction (by the character John Ray) tells what happens to everyone after the story. I almost always skip the introductions and get straight to the story, and if I like the story, read the introduction later. In this case, for me at least, it was a really good thing that I did that. I don't think I would have enjoyed the book nearly as much if I knew what happened to the characters later on.

By the way, the cover shown here is not the same one on my book...just thought I'd mention that.
