Josefina is an Hispanic girl whose heart and hopes are as big as the New Mexico sky.

Josefina lives in New Mexico in 1824, a time that is before statehood when the area is still controlled by Mexico. The text of this book is dotted with Spanish words that help to make it more realistic in its language.

This book is an introduction to Josefina and her family and tells of the setting that she lives in as well as some of the daily workings of her life.
