John Marsden is my favourite Australian childrens author.

For 12 years Winter has been haunted. Her past, her memories, her feelings, will not leave her alone. And now, at 16, the time has come for her to act. Every journey begins wih a single step. If Winter is going to step into the future, she must first step into the past.

I really enjoyed this.

A sixteen year old orphan, who has been living in Canberra for 12 years, returns home to her parents homestead in the bush. She seeks to find the truth behind her parents' deaths.

As always, John Marsden is great at finding the voice of a teenage girl, and writing about life in the bush, which is missing from a lot of teen lit. The main character, Winter, is strong-willed and completely believable.
