The Return of the Dancing Master (Vintage Crime/Black Lizard)

This is the first novel I've read by Henning Mankell that did not feature Swedish policeman Kurt Wallender, whom I've grown quite fond of, despite his rather gloomy outlook on life. The new protaganist, Stefan Lindman, is younger but no less gloomy, at least in this first book; but with good reason, he has just been diagnosed with cancer and is unofficially investigating the murder of a former colleague while awaiting his next treatment. Throw in an unexpected connection with a secret Nazi cult, and it's no wonder he isn't sleeping well. Mankell is a fabulous writer and I'm hating to see this one end - I'm not sure he's written the next Lindman book yet.
