This is a fantastic autobiography. Papillon is an amazing man and lives his life to the extreme - tales of injustice and friendship abound.
Great stuff.

I have seen this book numerous times on my rounds through op-shops and second hand book-shops, and I always assumed it was a romantic novel. Finding it in the biography bookbag made me have a closer look, and it actually looks quite interesting. Will read, but probably not soon.

A very enjoyable read. What a life this man lead! Imagine going through so much hardship and still keep going on trying to break free. Not many men would keep their spirits up for so long. I guess the other side of that character is a certain ruthlessness in personal relationships. I'm not entirely sure I would have felt very comfortable being close to a guy like that. He probably would have made it big if he had been allowed to stay in the mafia circles he used to live in. I imagine Papillon something like Jack Nicholson's role in 'The Departed', at least as dangerous if not that mad.
A very memorable book, and much more believable than 'Shantaram', which probably tries to emulate Henry Charriere's story.
