It was interesting to read about this historical period in England as I hardly ever (if ever!) read about it. But I already know there are other books from the same author also taking place in England and only a bit back in time.

The book is about the very early years of queen Elizabeth's reign. I was curious to read about the "Invincible Armada", but that comes afterwards... Once in a while I felt that the story was going a bit too slow and some ideas are often repeated (for instance, I read 3 times, and it was often written with almost the same words, that Cecil seldom signed any document...).

Sent on Oct 8th to Lotusflower77.

This book is special indeed! It got here in record time -4- days all the way from Portugal. It looks so good that I want to take a bite out of it right away, but alas, it has to wait because I have a few other books to read and I am on a deadline for all of those books.

After I finish, I plan on sending it to my bookcrossing buddy and history buff, hellomelissa. If she has already read it, I am pretty certain to find another cozy home for it very soon.

A big thank you to mady for sharing.

Ummm, not sure what to say about this book. I was disappointed that it only covered the first two years of Elizabeth I's reign. When I reached the end of the book it left me craving for what happens next (Elizabeth's reign, was, after all, one of the most interesting), but I don't think the author plans to write a sequel. She has instead moved on to writing a novel about Katherine of Aragon, Catholic Mary's mother.

Anyway, I think the book was too long and a little repetitive, after all, how many pages do you need to tell us that Elizabeth was in love with Robert Dudley but that she knew that to marry him was to put England in jeopardy?

I like the fact that the book gave a lot of coverage to Amy Dudley (Robert Dudley's long suffering wife) and ofcourse, the mystery of how she died is still unsolved.

I would watch PBS.ORG's latest extravaganza, The Virgin Queen as a companion to the book.

I will now ask Hellomelissa if she wants this book, if she doesn't, I am prepared to give it to someone else.
