Picked this up at a yard sale, for BC. This is an uncorrected proof.
I read this book a few months ago, and enjoyed it so much I've been picking up every copy I can find to register. This one will soon be going to a special person in Australia.
From the cover -
In the first hours there was nothing, no fear or sadness, just a black and perfect silence.
Nando Parrado was unconscious for three days before he woke to discover that the plane carrying his rugby team as well as their family members and supporters to an exhibition game in Chile had crashed somewhere deep in the Andes. He soon learned that many were dead or dying - among them his own mother and sister. Those who remained were stranded on a lifeless glacier with no supplies and no means of summoning help. They struggled to endure freezing temperatures, deadly avalanches, and then the devastating news that the search for them had been called off.
As time passed and Nando's thoughts turned increasingly to his father, who he knew must be consumed with grief, Nando resolved that he must get home or die trying.
Thirty years after the disaster made famous by Piers Paul Read in the international bestseller Alive, Nando tells his own story with remarkable candor and depth of feeling. Miracle in the Andes is more than a riveting tale of true-life adventure: it is a revealing look at life at the edge of death and a meditation on the limitless redemptive power of love.

Arrived just this morning! Thank you so much!
I had found the "Alive" book in a 2nd hand booksale and read it recently. Then I rewatched the movie of the same name. The DVD included a fascinating documentary on the events and what happened to some of the men afterwards. I knew I just had to read this book. I am so pleased it has arrived today, because tomorrow morning, I board a plane to go to my very first BC Convention! I am going to take THIS book with me to read on the plane. (No, the fact that it is about a lane crash, is not going to put me off reading it on a plane! )

I read this book on the plane to and from the Aussie BC Convention in Adelaide, South Australia. I think I might have been tempting fate reading it on a plane flight! :P
I have to say that this is a fantastic book. The author/survivor gives a very intimate and moving insight as to the emotional and physical ordeal he went through. He tackles the issues of God, spirituality, death, life, and randomness. I wondered why he or any of the other survivors never wrote a book about their experiences on the Andes before...Now I understand. If Parrado wrote about this as a young man, it would have been a different book, I feel. I see now that he is in his 50's that he has been able to live a life and process all that he has been through.
He is so open and so very honest in this book. It really is breath taking.
Thank you Mary, for directing this book into my hands, after I expressed interest in it. This book will go down as one of the best reads of 2006 for me.

This book is now on it's way to pinklady60.
Libertine101 saw this book on my wishlist and offered to send it to me. It was waiting for me at the post office when I returned from my lovely trip to Tasmania and New South Wales, Australia.
I've also read the book "Alive" by Piers Paul Ried as told to him by the survivors, but I understand Parrado was not happy as the story was told and decided to write his own book. I'm very anxious to read and compare the two. Thank you, libertine101 - - I will be sure to pass this book on to someone else when I'm finished, as you requested.

This is an excellent follow-up to Piers Paul Read’s book told from the perspective of one of the survivors 30 years later. “Alive” goes into much more detail of the events, but “Miracle in the Andes” feels more emotional and personal. Although Nando Parrado doesn’t consider himself a hero, this is truly an inspirational story with the message that love is a driving force in our lives.
