I absolutely loved this book! This is a powerful stody of four people trying to re-collect their lives after WWII. At times the plot is disjointed, but it seems to fit in with the emotions the characters are dealing with as the look back and what they went through in the war. The imagery is incredible in this book: powerful, sensual, and evocative. I love the characters and how they relate to each other through books and stories, touch and silence. There is very little silence in this book that isn't full of something not said or an emotion unexpressed. I particularly sympathize with Hana -- feeling like a part of her life, part of who she was, has been torn away from her. There is also the odd element of Katharine and Almasy. I won't give away too much here, but it is an understatement to say they were disfunctional.
