Latifa is a 16 year old girl when the Taliban arrive in Afghanistan, changing the way they must live their lives in drastic ways. Women have no rights, no voice, almost no right to exist. For example, a lot of the doctors and nurses are female, but under the Taliban women are not allowed to work - but neither are women allowed to be undressed in front of any man except her husband. So no medical care at all for women.

One of the things that cause Latifa and her family despair is that the west seem to have forgotten them. I remember the Taliban taking power, but never thought much about it - a lot of countries have unstable governments, so what was the fuss? This book has outlined for me exactly what the fuss was. The Taliban run a brutal, unforgiving regime of terror - Latifa and her family are brave enough to speak out aginst them even though it has cost them their home.

I find it a shame that the only people who will read this book are the ones who already have some sympathy. The people who believe we should send refugees home and not offer help or shelter should be forced to open thier eyes and see the suffering in the world as it really is.

This will be sent to YowlYY so she can continue her bookring.
