To Say Nothing of the Dog

4 journalers for this copy...
I am registering this book so I can offer it up to caligula03 on the bookrelay site. TBR first, then will journal again later.
I truly don't know whether I should be disappointed in the book or in myself! I love Connie Willis, but I must have started this book about five times and it couldn't hold my interest for too long. It was too busy and confusing for me, which probably wouldn't have been a problem if I entered with a clear and open imagination, which I tried to do each time. This book was also listed in one of Nancy Pearl's Book Lust books as a high-rated time travel novel. I may try to catch this book again later down the road, but for now, I'm sick of looking at it and trying to understand it.
I am sending this book off to caligula03. Good luck, and I hope you enjoy it! :)

The book has arrived. Thank you! :)
Still TBR but offering to crimson-tide for a reverse relay: http://bookrelay.com/relay.php?id=1254
I LOVED this book but it really should be called To Say Nothing of the Cat but that wouldn't tie as well to the original inspiration of Three Men in a Boat. I happened to read it right after finishing the Eyre Affair and Willis's book got everything right that the other book got wrong. To Say Nothing of the Dog is one of the best and most well thought out time travel novels I've ever read. It is a very densly packed story and did take some extra concentration to read but it was worth the effort. I was also pleased to have figured out early who Mr. C had to be.

Hey caligula03, I bet you thought that this one was never going to arrive!?
Well it finally has got here on the slow boat, so thank you very much. Can't say when I am likely to be able to retrieve it from the mt tbr, but will look forward to it just the same.

Finally got there!
I did enjoy this one, and although it took me a fair while to get into it, that was probably more to do with what else was going on in 'real life' and the fact I've been in a bit of a reading slump this year...
In the end it turned out to be clever, complicated, charming, and funny. The long term effect that a seemingly trivial act in the present can have on the future is a fascinating subject. And if you go back to the past and have even a miniscule impact on that seemingly trivial act in the past (which is now your present), how will that affect the future for everyone???
Not as good as "Doomsday Book" in my opinion, but nonetheless still definitely worth a read.

Happy reading!
Thanks crimson-tide! I have to admit that I have read already this previously, and I loved it. I picked up this copy so I could reread it, and also hopefully get my boyfriend to read it to (I'll let you know how I get on :-)
I reread this in the last week and found it as charming as ever. Still need to get my BF to read it to see how he feels about it.
