I was out to dinner at a local Indian restaurant (mmmmm...) and when I went to ladies room, there the book was sitting on the counter by the sink. At first I thought that someone had left a book there by mistake (kind of odd, but you never know.) Then I read the label and I thought it was such a great thing... I took the book and went back to my table where I told my date all about it. I had never heard of such a thing... what a great idea this is.
The book itself was much better than I expected at first. Parts were very difficult for me to read because the Logan family (and the other African-American families in the book) are treated so inhumanely. The author does not mince words or downplay the true ugliness of racism and hatred. I personally gained a much better understanding of the conditions in this country not so long ago. I'm very glad I read this book and now want to read the rest of this series.
