One of the books in Patricia Cornwell's "other fiction" series - other than the Dr Kay Scarpetta novels.

Blurb from the back of the book:
"Chaos breaks loose when the Governor of Virginia orders that speed traps be installed on all streets and hihgways, and warns that motorists will be caught by mnitoring aircraft flying overhead. But the eccentric inhabitant of Tangier, 14 miles off the coast of Virginia in the Chesapeake Bay, respond by threatening to secede and set up as a independent state, claiming that their independence lies in the history of America's first settlers, those who set sail from London's Isle of Dogs in 1607.

Judy Hammer, newly installed as the Superintendent oVirginia State Police, and Andy Brazil, state trooper and Hammer's right-hand confidant, find themselves at tehi wit's end as they try to protect the public from the politicians ... and vice versa."

Not anywhere near as good as teh Dr Kay Scarpetta series, but does have it's fair share of laughs as well as mystery, action and adventure.

I saw this release alert a couple of weeks ago, but didn't get around to hunting down the book. I ended up walking past Old Government House today and looked around in the trees without any success. I was just about to give up when I spotted this book lying on the ground in the middle of the garden bed. Yahoo!

I've never read any Patricia Cornwell before so I'm looking forward to reading this one.
