"Harvard profressor Robert Langdon receives an urgent late night phone call while on business in Paris: the elderly curator of the Louvre has been brutally murdered inside the museum. Alongside the body, police have found a series of baffling codes. As Langdon and a gifted French cryptologist, Sophie Neveu, begin to sort through the bizarre riddles, they are stunned to find a trail that leads to the works of Leonardo Da Vinci - and suggests the answer to a mystery that stretches deep into the vaults of history.

Unless Langdon and Neveu can decipher the labyrinthine code and quickly assemble the pieces of the puzzle, a stunning historical truth will be lost forever..."

Wow! I started this on Friday and finished it about 10 minutes ago, I just couldn't believe how much it gripped me! Every time I went to put it down something else would be uncovered or revealed and I just had to keep reading. The story is full of twists and turns, and I found myself trying to work out certain codes and riddles, even though I didn't have a clue! A thoroughly interesting and entertaining story that I would definitely recommend!

Whatever someone might think of this controversial novel, Dan Brown's style is irresistible. I just couldn't stop reading: I usually try and finish a chapter before putting a book down at night - but the chapters in the Da Vinci Code all end on a note that makes it impossible to stop!
I know there is a huge discussion on about the (anti)religious content of this book but to me it was most and foreall a brilliant mystery thriller. There are so many twists and turns and for once I was unable to pinpoint even remotely in the right direction as to the actual villain, and it was fascinating to watch the ensueing "treasure hunt" unfold alongside the hunt for the murderer.
The religious context is based on a number of documents and happenings that have been described and publicised in various books for at least the last 30 years, some of which I've read and can confirm that they are much more concise and pressing in their facts, and sometimes conclusions, and might lead some people in the wrong direction where faith is concerned. I don't think that The Da Vinci Code really poses such a threat (unless people are driven to explore further literally by the book's controversial reputation!) because as I said, it is a really good thriller and people rarely delve into the background of such novels.
No doubt the religious inconography concerned, the history and the lore, in particularly the grail stories, are quite interesting in themselves, but really here they only serve as the base for a political/power plot.

I've just received this from coolboxuk - many thanks. Its thicker than i thought it was! I have already started reading it as i've been intrigued by its reputation, i've not read any Dan Brown before so it should be interesting. Hope it doesn't take me too long to finish, i'm not a very quick reader.

I thought this was a really good read. I managed to work out some of the clues but others left me puzzled which meant it was difficult to put down. The only probelm I have with this sort of book is if I know some bits are based on real people/places/events, I wonder how much else in the book is real, but i guess that's why this book is popular and contriversial.
