I remember watching the movie version of this when I was young enough that my mom worried a bit about the things that I might see in the movie. (But I was probably not all that young - just a little sheltered.)

I always hear people say that they read V.C. Andrews as young teens or in Jr High School but I guess I was a bit behind. I know that I didn't start reading V.C. Andrews books until I was getting ready to graduate from High School or start college. I remember also a friend of mine reading some of the V.C. Andrews books and being so disgusted with them that she would throw them across the room. I guess that "E" liked more classical works and the incestuous nature of many of the V.C. Andrews works was the final nail in the coffin for her.

Because of the movie, and reading this book, it is one that I can remember the most. It makes me feel outraged to know that two teens and two small twins could be closed up in a small room and an attic for years. Fighting back is fruitless for them but I know that I would be one that would fight back and that I would be forming a plan of escape.

This is the book that gives all of the main characters life (and death) and we can build on them in the books to come.

I found this book and the others in the series on the free book exchange shelf where I had left them and the ribbon had been removed. I want these books to stay together as a set and so the next time I release them I am going to try a more controlled release.
